A tip to be a successful magician: Interaction

One thing I noticed with good magicians is that they are able to maintain a certain level of interaction with their audiences. They are able to make their audiences participate and interact with them that they are not just performing but leaving the audience an experience.

This brings me to think that magic is not just performing but having interaction to leave your audience with an unforgettable and magical experience. Though I heard a lot about the magic moment within a performance, I think a more magical moment is what you leave with them to be remembered.

This is something that I've been thinking of, since I'm seeing a lot of not so good magicians on TV. You can't even say they are the best in technique and their performances are not really that magical. To top it all most of them don't dress properly especially that one of them has too much make up.

Yes I know that Stage Magic is a different thing altogether but performing and interacting properly with the audience should still be seen. Especially that you keep on performing with the audiences behind you that inadvertently gives away the secret.

Anyways, what I really just want to say is that, magic should not be about you or them, it's the interaction between you and your audiences, the experience that something magical is happening, not the experience of being tricked.

My MAGIC Inventory

For the past few years that I've been doing magic, I never thought that I'd collect things related to it. I'm surprised that my magic stuff filled up one big box and I'm thinking of getting another one just in case my collection grows.

With all that I collected through the years, I shared the best and worst experiences in magic with them. I hope that someday I'll become better and share only the best with them.

The King of Pop Shows Some Magic

I was on my way to my work and I saw something being played on a video store: Michael Jackson's HIStory was being played and I stopped for a while and watched a few songs and I was really impressed how beautiful and amazing his dance skills are but what amazed me the most is that he was able to do more than just sing and dance. He was able to do some magic.

Now that's some serious magic from the King of Pop himself. There is another one wherein he vanished from the chair but I can't find a video of that yet. All I could say is that whenever he sings, dance or does magic everyone is captivated and no one could escape the magic of the King of Pop.

I'm getting ready for my first formal show

As an amateur magician (emphasis on not doing magic as a source of income) I was always asked to do a trick or two during gatherings amongst friends or families. It was always impromptu and usually I never get to show them the best tricks that I have.

Until one of my friends asked me to do a walkaround magic show on a birthday party. I was asked if I could perform for the guests and I didn't hesitate when I said yes. Of course it would be a great opportunity for me to show my skills at the same time to assess myself in case I would be doing shows in the future.

It was good that the Birthday party will have a theme and from there I was actually able to draft a routine for each table consisting of tricks that are simple to understand yet very mind boggling. Since it is walkaround and table hopping style I opted for tricks that are not too flashy, to avoid people from the other table from being disturbed while the show is going on in another table.

I hope to complete the line up at the end of this week so that I could go practice for the remaining weeks before that day. I hope I could pull it off as a magician and leave a good impression on the guests so that in the future I could share more of the magic with other people.

Impromptu Performance

I have been gone for the past few days because my grandfather in Negros Occidental died, he is 90 years old and he died of old age. The place is really a far province and of course internet access there is only available in some parts. I just got back here in Metro Manila yesterday at around 8:00 am. After getting home at around 9:00, I just rested for a while and got myself dressed up again to attend a christening at 11:00 am.

Well I got there and the ceremony was almost over but the celebration has just begun. After eating a sumptuous lunch, my girlfriend told her high school friends that I would show them something. Well I know that was my cue and soon I started doing magic on our table. I showed them a few card tricks and of course they were amazed but at the same time they started joking me by saying "Hey look it's David... David Cook!" I just laughed with them on their comments thanking that it wasn't some other street magician on TV name again.



A few moments later they told me to come to the table of the mother of the child. She was with her friends and soon I started doing magic tricks for other tables as well. My performance for each table was really short and it consists only of about 3-5 card tricks.

As we were about to leave I bid them good bye by showing a linking tings routine. Although I would love to perform more, we really need to leave already because we still have a lot to do for that day.
